The Climate Emergency compels us to decarbonize—specifically to stop burning fossil fuels to heat buildings.

Many older, historic buildings lack the insulation necessary to make the transition to lower-temperature electric heat.

The most effective strategy is often to add a continuous layer of exterior insulation, which can dramatically alter the building’s appearance, a no-no in preservation circles.

This panel will bring together two leading voices—a preservationist and a green builder­—to debate this issue and sort out a path forward.
